Car spotting in the parking lot at work...
Actually, I’m not sure if the owner of the McLaren 650S is a “car guy” - a person can have expensive sportscars and not be a “car guy” - but I know for a fact the owner of the Pantera is car guy royalty.
There was also an Alfa 4C for a while, but haven’t seen it lately. Not too shabby, though, I suppose.

Pantera leaves his windows down for photographers and to attract attention away from the 4C

I think so, too. But you never know.
If I had money for a 650S (about $300k), I would buy 12 other vintage cars instead. He’s probably leasing it.

There’s used to be a yellow and a red pantera I’d see occasionally in my lot. They might’ve retired though, haven’t seen them in forever. Really cool cars.

Oh my god. That Pantera looks so good in that dark blue.

I honestly don’t know which I would take.
So I’ll take the Tesla and have neither. (If it’s a P90D, impossible to tell though)

Pantera too neat for me

Pantera owner is used to attention. (See my reply above) ;)

Yes. Yes, it does.
It also looks good in motion, on video. (see my reply above)

owner has the resources to keep it quite neat. Along with the rest of his impressive, somewhat famous collection. ;)

Car guy also has a couple of McLarens himself.

I doubt he’s selling it anytime soon, but you could ask him yourself on his YouTube channel: http://jalopnik.com/jay-leno-expla…

Yes. (both the car and the band of the same name).

I agree! Just watched the “Anything But 4 Wheels” episode last night and found it to be really good! The segment on the paraplegic motocross racer was amazing.

Yes! But laments on video about not being able to work on the contemporary McLaren in his collection himself (has to send the new car(s) to the factory for service)...

Right?
Have you seen the video about it?

Are those upsized reproduction wheels on the DeTomaso, is it a whole reproduction Pantera or is it just unusually clean?

Yeah, they’re upsized repro wheels (he mentions it in the video he did on the car). He also did a few mods to improve overall driveability/reliability, but tried to keep it as stock as possible. Except for that clock on the steering wheel, which he finds funny.

There's a band called Pantera? Good to know. I only really care about 1
![]() 07/07/2016 at 20:38 |
|
yeah, they were a great heavy metal band active in the 80's to early 2000's. Quite popular, on par with Metallica, Slayer, etc. They are unfortunately not... active anymore :’(

oh f that. I honestly hate him for that video. I’ve been trying to buy one for a long time since I became obsessed about 16 years ago. JAY and other people have really pumped up the price of these cars, it sucks. Hopefully I will still be able to find a reasonable person to sell eventually.
![]() 07/07/2016 at 22:31 |

Oof, I am not a heavy metal person. AC/DC is as heavy as I get when it comes to rock.

Nah, the entire collector car market has been going up (which is what it does naturally), especially in the last 5 - 10 years. However, even though it seems like you could get a decent example for $40k only a few years ago, Panteras are still relatively attainable because they haven’t received the same attention/lust/respect as their Italian counterparts.
There’s a specific classic car that’s next on my list (it shall remain nameless) that I’ve been watching get less attainable. 6 years ago I thought $10k was a bit strong for a nice example. Now, they’re around $30k (no thanks to one that sold at auction a few years ago for the astronomical sum of $50k).
Panteras are pretty rad, and I wouldn’t mind one in my garage, right next to a Mangusta....
![]() 07/08/2016 at 04:08 |
|
Rad. AC/DC will always have a place in my iPod’s driving playlist. Pantera (the band) is considerably more... aggressive. Cheers.
![]() 07/08/2016 at 14:58 |

Yeah the Pantera is a way better car but the Mangusta is Guigario and more elegant and pretty. That being said they are enormously huge value so. I wish I was rich enough to make this guy an offer last year;
Mainly I was attracted by possible rusted outness.

Nice (and potentially headache inducing). Then again... V6 Honda engine swap? (There’s a crazy old guy in my neighborhood doing that with a Lambo Urraco)
